Chuck Leavell, keyboard player for the Rolling Stones has published his first children's book.
Leavell's book is titled ÑThe Tree Farmer'. The musician is himself a tree farmer and well known conservationist. "I think it's so important that we plant the seed in these tender young minds about the importance of our environment and the importance and the value of the resource of wood to all of us" he said when asked about the inspiration for his book. "It's an incredibly important resource and it's important that children understand this.
While not on tour with the Stones, Leavell turns his hand to his conservation work and was recently named as a model conservationist by the Bush administration. Interior Secretary Gale Norton called him awarded and named Chuck and his wife "Outstanding Citizen Stewards"
The Leavell's have a tree farm in Macon, Georgia where he grows Southern Yellow Pine for use in homes and paper products.
